our works for environment

Introduction

YUMI

CEO of MORE Planning

YUMI

Thank you for your interest in MORE SCHOOL.

What prompted us to establish this school was our strong feeling that, through our trash-picking activities both in rural areas and underwater, "We want to convey this reality to many divers. However, picking up trash in the ocean or mountains can be dangerous. So we need a place where we can teach specialized skills."

There are many dive shops in Izu where we are active. However, it is not realistic to only talk about environmental issues during normal fun diving. Also, although picking up trash while diving is a great idea, it is difficult to encourage unconditional trash picking, as team safety and personal safety are the top priorities.

So, we, who have the skills to deal with illegal dumping in the mountains and clean up underwater, decided to create a "specialized" school. Nowadays, it is easy to get information through television and the Internet. However, there is still nothing that can beat experiencing it for yourself. Look at the current situation with your own eyes, and let's work together to explore and act on "what we can do within our capabilities."

I truly believe that with more divers, the ocean will be cleaner.

Diving Course

Survey on marine litter

Illegal dumping collection experience

Walking in Satoyama

Circulation Experience

The course is divided into five levels, and participants can improve their diving skills to become "underwater cleaning specialists" according to their skill level. Aim to improve your skills with a practical curriculum.

Trash washes up from all over Japan and the world. By actually participating in a beach cleanup, you can learn about the characteristics and trends of the various types of trash that exist in the ocean. Think together about the types of trash that wash up on the shore, which change depending on the influence of wind and waves and other conditions.

We will actually collect illegally dumped waste that has been dumped on mountains and mountain paths from several decades ago to the present. You will see the presence of garbage that you normally cannot see with your own eyes and collect it with your own hands. You will also enjoy nature by taking a walk through the Izu Satoyama.

You can actually see, experience and feel the connection between the sea and the mountains. By smelling the smell of the earth and moss and feeling the power and spray of the waterfall with all five senses, you can learn more about the "cycle of nature."

⚫︎Illegal dumping collection

The biggest thing I learned through practice was that I should not push myself too hard and should do what I can. I had a strong image of picking up trash as picking up all the trash I found and doing it perfectly, and I thought I might not be suited to it because I don't have much physical strength... I think the biggest thing I gained from this was that I realized that this is something I can do on a regular basis. Above all, I thought it was fun. It was also good to be able to interact with the local people.

⚫︎Garbage collection diving

I'm clumsy, so it's hard to do everything in one dive, but this time I was able to focus on picking up trash, and it was a better experience than I expected! It was great that I wasn't too absorbed in looking for trash, and that I was able to take my time to control my posture and buoyancy when picking up trash, and that a third party checked it for me. I was nervous until just before diving, thinking that it would be more difficult, but once I got in the sea, I was able to calm down thanks to the careful explanations and kindness of the two people on land!

⚫︎Accommodation and night on the first day

It was fun spending time together. By seeing even a little bit of what their lives are like, I was able to broaden my range of interests, such as the methods they use to reduce waste and the attention to detail they give to the things they use. I was really happy and enjoyed talking to them so much, and my first time living in Nakaizu was the best!! In the end, I guess it's all about personality. (August 2023)

Guidelines

◆Purpose of Course Guidelines

The MORE SCHOOL program offered by MORE Planning was initiated to promote interest in environmental issues. In addition, these guidelines have been developed to ensure that safety is the first priority when picking up litter on land and in the water, as well as to unify minimum standards for attitudes toward learning, etc.

We have also created this guideline in order to unify the minimum standards for safety and attitude in land and underwater litter pickup.
Prevent problems from occurring, and make sure that the students know what to do in the event of a problem.
Ensure that accurate information on environmental issues is obtained.

These are the objectives of these guidelines.

◆For your safe participation

Mountain Forest Practice

Please agree to the precautions before you participate in the activities in the mountains.

Please follow the instructions of the organizer during the activities in the mountains. If you do not follow the instructions, the course will be cancelled along with the ocean training.

Please wear comfortable clothes (long sleeves and long pants), boots, and military gloves (may be provided) when participating in the course.

∙ Basically, do not pick up the following items (items with nails sticking out, sharp objects, broken glass or bottles, melted dry cell batteries or electrical appliances, heavy items, etc.)

*Staff will pick up items based on the situation.

There are many slippery areas and tree roots sticking out. Please watch your step and be careful not to injure yourself.
There are many thorny plants such as branches and vines in the area. Please be careful not to get them in your eyes.
There are many trees that are scraggly inside and can easily break off. Do not put your weight on them unnecessarily.
We also recommend wearing a mask to minimize inhalation of dust, pollen, mold, etc.
We collect the trash every month, so there is no need to try to pick it all up in one go.

It is essential that you never overexert yourself. If someone gets hurt, we will stop the activity.

Ocean Training/Pool Training
Diving is conducted either on the beach or on a boat. Entry method depends on the shape of the boat. Please follow the guide's instructions.
It takes about 5 minutes to get to the point. If you are easily intoxicated, please take an anti-sickness medicine.
Even in the case of boat diving, we will return to the shore for a break after each dive.

Safety of all team members, whether on land or in the water, is the top priority, rather than the execution of trash pickup.
Do not move around freely, but clean only a limited area of the dive site.
Wear gloves (military gloves, etc.) so as not to cut your hands on fishing lines or other debris you pick up.
Guides will make the decision to retrieve hooks, hooks, and other items that may be in danger of sticking into the water.
The guide will make the decision to collect long, heavy, or sharp objects when he/she sees the situation, so please do not pick them up unnecessarily.
Please do not pick up any long, heavy, or sharp objects without the guide's permission.
Please follow the instructions of the guides and operators both in the water and on land.

Keep neutral buoyancy, and be careful not to land on the bottom or throw up trash when collecting trash.
Keep neutral buoyancy and be careful not to kick rocks, coral, or sand in the water.
When collecting trash, check for fish and eggs in bottles and cans. If there are any living creatures living in them, they will not be collected.
Remove mud from trash while being mindful of your surroundings, and remove as much mud as possible from the outside of the trash.
When picking up trash in crevices between rocks, check to see if there are any creatures such as moray eels or sea urchins hiding in the crevices before reaching in.
